Frida at fashion week.

A little animation to mark London's Fashion week for Growlmama :)

Frida's clumsy debut.

The first of hopefully many Frida shorts to promote Growlmama's launch. This one's called 'coming soon'.

I put together a little step by step of the layers of work that went into this quick run cycle. Because although I'm sure people who know about animation appreciate the repetitive work that goes into something so seemingly simple, other may wonder why something so quick would take so long to create ... and there's something very satisfying about step by steps!

Check out the final piece with sound below.

Growlmama

Blimey it's been ages - a year and four months! I've been doing a lot of animating and not much drawing recently, and what I have drawn I've forgotten to put up.. I'm not even sure who I do this blog for really. "hello... is anyone out there..?" maybe not, maybe it's just me talking myself , but it's cathartic anyway so here goes!

My latest Project has been on an up-and-coming brand called Growlmama who create (in their own words) : "Stylish, functional accessories for design-loving dogs & their parents." They've asked me to design a type of animated mascot based on the Growlmama's creator's dog - Frida, for their website and Instagram page. (@growlmama / Growlmama.com)

I'm still in the concept stages and it's a challenge as I haven't spent much time drawing dogs but I'm having so much fun sketching her.

We should be nearing a final design very soon so I'll try an update this as much as I can - especially when I get around to animating her!

It's a bears life.

I drew this furry character for my mum's birthday card, I'll get around to colouring him at some point!

Nutcracker Programme

Every year around Christmas time I work with my old dance school West London School of Dance on their annual performance of The Nutcracker. I operate the spotlight as well as sometimes help with costume fittings and set dressing. This year I was asked to design the program and poster! Illustrations for Ballet? Yes please! As this performance is set in the 20's I thought I'd incorporate an Art Deco theme. So here are the initial deigns and final images.

Initial designs, they chose to go with the middle one.

Final program design.

Final poster design.

Eee! Crackers it's been a long time!

Hello! Well it's been 9 months since my last post and soooooo much has happened, my main news is that I was offered a job as an assistant animator at my dream studio Aardman back in April !!! GAhahahahahahahaha!..was pretty much my reaction. So i've been living in lovely Bristol for the last six months and working on the fourth series of Shaun the Sheep which has been incredible. I've been doing a lot of plasticine sculpting and even some animating - which sadly i can't post yet. I'll try harder to keep this updated with work I do in and out of Aardman! Bye!

A bit of underwatercolour!

I've been wanting to experiment with combining watercolour and Photoshop for some time now so here's the result of my first bit of fun. The words are an excerpt from a poem by Yeats.

Playing with Flash

This is the result of a little task I gave myself to see how long it would take me to animate  a walk cycle in Flash. She's very simple, I could have given her a few more moving accessories, but I did this in a day, from design, through learning the program tools to making my first .gif - and I'm pretty pleased with it!

Inspiration in the form of David Downton and Rene Gruau

This was my first attempt at animating in Flash, just wanted to do a bit of character animation, pretty happy with it as a rough, although I should have been paying more attention to maintaining the characters proportions! :p
